About Hole In The Donut Travels
My blog theme is: "Travel is a spiritual affair that delights the senses, nourishes the intellect, and opens the heart." I dig beneath the normal tourist experience to discover the true essence of the people, places, and things in each destination. The site was launched in November 2006
History of the blog
After years of working at jobs that paid the bills but brought no joy, I walked away from corporate life to pursue the only things I’d ever wanted to do: writing, photography, and travel. In 2007, at the age of 54, I slapped on a backpack and traveled around the world solo for six months. I began the blog as a means for my friends and family to follow my journey, but by the time my round-the-world trip was completed it had developed a significant readership. Realizing I had struck a nerve with readers who admired my bold move to abandon my career in order to pursue my lifelong dream, I decided to permanently incorporate the blog into my new freelance writing and photography career. Since that time it has grown exponentially, due primarily to quality writing and strong social networking.
Future plans for the blog
I will be traveling 4-5 months in the first half of 2010 (Mexico, Central and South America) and another 4-5 months beginning in September or October of 2010 (China, SE Asia, Indonesia). In addition to my current online social media efforts, I will be developing a public relations campaign in 2010 aimed at the traditional media.
