Julie May is a Food Blogger who specializes in Food and Recipes
About I am the prototypical modern American mom. During the day, I work full time as a professor of Anatomy & Physiology at a private Christian University. When I get home, the real work begins as the mother of four beautiful children (3 boys and 1 girl).
I grew up in South Louisiana where the best food in the world is routinely brought from the garden and the water, and put on the table. Everyone in my family of origin is a wonderful cook, so I guess it is just natural that I show my love to my family through food.
I love cooking and eating... and teaching my children the art and techniques of being in the kitchen. My mother taught me that there is always SOME part of the cooking process that even small children can help with...so my kids are indeed very familiar with the kitchen, the kitchen tools, use of homegrown herbs, etc.
Something not commonly know about Julie May: I have just received a contract with a book publisher for a cookbook, which should be out next year. I have also been invited to start doing commercial spots for a large grocery store chain, to kick off their holiday campaign.
Julie May in the press: I have had a recipe published in the online edition of Glamour Magazine, and have been invited to appear on a late night talk show that airs along the Gulf Coast. My son and I won a cooking competition with entrants from around the world, and donates our winnings to a children's home.
About Menu Musings of a Modern American Mom
My blog features step-by-step photos of each recipe so that even the most timid cook can feel confident in trying out the dishes. I am passionate about people cooking and eating at home, because I think this is a healthier lifestyle on many levels for our families. I am also a huge proponent of cooking WITH your children, so my kids are featured in many of my posts. The site was launched in May 2010
History of the blog I started the blog a few years ago when a friend kept asking me for quick and easy recipes that she could make after work for her family. Emailing the recipes to her (some with photos for clarification) became cumbersome, so I started the blog for her convenience. I never imagined it would turn into what it is today, but it really took off!
Future plans for the blog Exciting things have really started happening lately with the blog. I have just received a contract from a book publisher for a Menu Musings cookbook. Additionally, a large grocery store chain has invited me to help launch their holiday campaign by doing some commercial spots for them. If response is positive, then I may become part of their regular advertising. I have also been invited to start appearing and perhaps cooking on a late night TV talk show. All of these influence will definitely traffic to the blog!
