• Nielsen found that one in every 11 minutes online is accounted for by social network and blogging sites
• Facebook users averaged over 3 billion minutes on the site every day. They updated their status 15 million times and became “fans” of a particular company, brand, product or person 3.5 million times daily
• eMarketer estimates that $2 billion was spent advertising on social networks worldwide in 2008, this is projected to increase 17% to $2.35 billion this year
• The IDC found that 43% of social network users never clicked on ads, and only 11% of those who did click purchased something. Compared to 80% and 23% respectively for nonusers
• A milestone for social media, YouTube received more than 100 million unique visits in January
• Another milestone for social media – according to Nielsen more people in leading digital countries worldwide are using social networks and blogs than email
