Elessa uses YouTube to become the most influential beauty blogger

Press release, London, September 15  Elessa is the most influential beauty blogger. She is the editor of Pursebuzz.com, the sixth most influential beauty blog, she also is very active on Twitter, Facebook and MySpace. However most of her influence is due to her popularity on YouTube. Elessa currently has 140 thousand subscribers on YouTube and has produced 392 videos which have been watched 44.5 million times.

Elessa from Pursebuzz.com, Christine Mielke from Temptalia, and Alicia from xSparkage, are the three most influential beauty bloggers. This is according to Konector’s Top 50 Beauty Blogs and Bloggers report that examines the leading beauty blogs and their editors.

Konector recently used the Online Impact Factor (OIF) to work out that Temptalia is the most influential beauty blog. It has now also used the OIF to rank the most influential beauty bloggers. “This value, which is the bloggers personal impact, is different to the blog Online Impact Factor as it includes the overall impact from all the blogs and social networks managed by a particular individual,” says Kingsley Maunder, a Director at Konector. “Many leading bloggers have more than one blog and they have a large social network outside the blogosphere. They use YouTube and social media sites like Twitter, Facebook and MySpace to promote themselves, their blogs and beauty brands.”

As can be seen in Figure 1, Elessa is the most influential beauty blogger. Her blog, Pursebuzz.com, is the sixth most influential beauty blog. She is also very active on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and YouTube. “Elessa is the most popular beauty blogger on MySpace with 3,700 followers, she has over ten thousand followers on Twitter and a thousand friends and fans on Facebook,” says Konector’s Director of Analytics, Brett Norval. “However most of Elessa’s influence is due to her popularity on YouTube. To date she has 140 thousand channel subscribers on YouTube and since January 2007 she has produced 392 videos that have been watched 44.5 million times.”

Christine Mielke is the second most influential beauty blogger. She is the editor of Temptalia.com, the most influential beauty blog. Christine is also active on YouTube, Twitter and Facebook. Christine informed Konector that she sees YouTube as a potential area of growth and in the last two months she has launched an impressive 25 videos.

“We believe that Christine will benefit from the additional YouTube exposure as this medium can increase one’s online impact significantly,” says Maunder. “This becomes evident when examining the third most influential beauty blogger, Alicia from xSparkage. xSparkage.com only just makes the top 20 beauty blogs, however Alicia’s presence on YouTube catapults her personal online impact to number three.”

In June of 2009 xSparkage launched 12 videos on YouTube which were watched 1.15 million times. She currently has 122 thousand YouTube subscribers and since March 2007 she has produced 233 videos, which have been viewed 22.5 million times. Alicia also has more followers on Facebook and Twitter than anyone else in the top 50. She has over two thousand friends and fans on Facebook and 17 thousand followers on Twitter.

As can be seen in Figure 1, Patrice Grell Yursik from Afrobella has also done particularly well as she ranks fifth on personal impact. This is due to her significant contribution to bvhairtalk.com, which attracts 191 thousand visitors a month.

“Sixteen of the top 50 bloggers own more than one blog, or they are a major contributor to a blog network,” says Norval. “Marta Walsh is in fact the editor of five blogs, four of them beauty blogs. She is also on YouTube, MySpace, Facebook and Twitter. Konector doesn’t have a measure for hard work, but Marta must be the hardest working beauty blogger.” Jennifer Davidson and her team from StyleBakeryBeauty.com is the only other blogger with five blogs, while Christina Jones, Sesame and Carleen Pruess Coulter each manage four blogs.
